Sam’s Club Intros 2nd Fair Trade Certified Argentinean Wine
Sam’s Club introduced a second Fair Trade Certified wine in locations nationwide. Solombra Reserva, produced and bottled by Argentina’s La RioJana Cooperative, is available exclusively at Sam’s Club as a Merlot and Pinot Grigio. Other varietals including a Cabernet Sauvignon are expected to follow.
Workers participating in Fair Trade Certified programs are guaranteed a fair price for their goods based on an analysis of the cost of the living in their area that will allow them to lead their lives with dignity and to fund the development of schools, medical clinics and other basic necessities. This process is administered in the U.S. by TransFair, a non-profit organization.
Solombra Reserva will sell for about $8 a bottle in more than 450 Sam’s Club locations that are authorized to offer wine. More than $2 from the sale of each case of the wine will go to Argentina’s Fair Trade Cooperative fund for local projects. TransFair is working on behalf of Sam’s Club with the local community and plans are underway to build a full service Medical Center.
Thank you for covering this!
I have had the good fortune to be able to try Solombra – beyond having an amazing story (Evaki Imports, the importer, has committed to buying one brick Timiliqui and Chilecito’s community hospital for every bottle sold) – it is a wonderful tasting wine!! Excellent value at only $7.88 a bottle.

Thank you again!
